Description: Ganesh or Vinayaka is worshipped as the remover of all obstacles. The elephant -headed god is shown in many forms - seated, standing and dancing. Most depictions of Ganesha show him with four hands, the upper two holding the weapons pasa and ankusha and the lower ones in abhaya and varada mudra. In his palms he holds a modak, his favourite sweet and one that is offered to him by devotees, and his broken tusk with which he is believed to have written the Mahabharata narrated by sage Vyasa. Around his belly is wrapped a snake and across his torso is a sacred thread. His vahana, the mushika (mouse) is crouched at his foot.
