Ganga flows from the crown of Shiva's head and in the foreground are Nandi and a peacock, vahanas of Shiva and Kartikeya, respectively. The striking colors, intricately embossed gold foil and bright semiprecious stones make this a striking composition in the classical Tanjore painting style.
The Tanjore painting style is a GI tagged intricate classical painting style from Tamil Nadu that originated in the 1600s under the patronage of the Maratha Nayaks in Thanjavur.
