  • Description: This painting depicts one of the most widely represented scenes from the epic Ramayana, the coronation of Lord Rama as the king of Ayodhya, after his 14-year long exile. Lord Rama is seated on a golden throne under a bejewelled mandapam and is surrounded by his brothers, Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrughna, who attend to him lovingly with an umbrella and fly whisks. Sita is seated beside Rama and at his feet is Hanuman.
    The Tanjore painting style is a GI tagged intricate classical painting style from Tamil Nadu that originated in the 1600s under the patronage of the Maratha Nayaks in Thanjavur.
