Description: Painted clay golu tableau of Sita and Ravana (disguised as a mendicant) depicting an important turning point in the Ramayana. During their exile, when Rama and Lakshmana were both away, to safeguard Sita, Lakshmana had drawn a line (Lakshman Rekha) around their dwelling enclosing Sita in a protected space, within which he asked her to remain always. Wily Ravana, however, knew this, so he donned the guise of a mendicant and came begging Sita for food. The kind hearted Sita disregarded Lakshmana's instructions stepped outside the Lakshmana Rekha to give the old mendicant some food. Ravana then snatched this opportunity to abduct Sita and take her away to Lanka.
