Description: Andal is Tamil Nadu's favourite poet-saint and author of the Thiruppavi. She is considered an incarnation of Bhumi Devi (Sri Lakshmi) and the icon of bhakti. Andal is depicted as graceful and slender, standing and holding a parrot or a lotus, or sometime with a parrot on a lotus. She wears a garland and has her hair piled up in a bun to the left side.
This composition is quintessential of the traditional Tanjore style, with a beautifully adorned subject in a fully frontal pose, within a decorated architectural frame.
